The upgrades include heating/air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, paint inside and outside, floor finishes, lighting in pool area and restrooms, acoustical tile, a fire sprinkler system, roof and other equipment that may have worn out.
The Swim Center was built in 1994. In 1997, bond money funded additional seats, a weight room, a classroom, offices, a concession area, bigger locker rooms and bigger lobby bathrooms.
The swimming pool is 25 yards by 25 meters, with 11 lanes in the yards direction and 10 lanes in the meters direction. There is a 1-meter diving board and a 3-meter diving board.
According to GCISD officials, it is one of the "fastest" swimming pools in the state, and the district’s high school swimming teams have been some of the most successful teams in the state.
Since the Swim Center opened, they have won 14 district championships, seven regional championships and three state championships. Since 1997, at least one team has finished in the top six at the state meet every year.
In addition:
Team members have achieved 57 All-America performances and 326 All-State performances.
The combined dual meet records of all of the teams are 207-100-2.
The Grapevine boys team was selected in 1998 by Swimming World magazine as the second best public school boys team in the country.
Team members have won nine individual UIL state championships and set six UIL state records.
GCISD swimmers and divers have had two selections of the Outstanding Female Swimmer of the State, and a member of the coaching staff has been twice selected state Coach of the Year.
