Former GCISD Board President to Receive Foundation Award

Staff Writer

Former Grapevine-Colleyville school board President John T. Eubanks will be presented with the 2008 Distinguished Friend Award at the Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation’s "Celebrating Our Stars" Academic Recognition Banquet on June 5 at the Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine.

The award is given to a person who is committed to the mission and vision of the GCISD Education Foundation.

Eubanks is a founding director of the Education Foundation and has continued to work with the organization over the past 10 years.

Eubanks and his wife, Janis, were some of the first endowment patrons for the foundation. This year they began another endowment with a gift of $52,500 to the foundation to perpetually honor the school district’s Secondary Teacher of the Year with an annual grant of $2,500.

The Eubanks have five children, three of whom graduated from GCISD schools. Two of their children are educators.

Besides his service to the foundation, Eubanks has served on the GCISD Board of Trustees, including two years as president. He also served on the 2005 GCISD Bond Steering Committee. "The Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation is an extension of our community in support of our school district and in particular, our teachers and students," Eubanks said in a statement.

Education Foundation Executive Director Janice Kane said in a statement, "John is an experienced and loyal leader and most interested in helping the students and educators in GCISD. He has supported GCISD and the foundation both with his time, talents and financial resources. His steady leadership has been instrumental in the tremendous growth and success of the school district and the foundation. John is a true friend of GCISD and the foundation and a most deserving recipient of the Distinguished Friend Award."
