GHS Gets 8 Betty Buckley Nominations

Grapevine High School earned eight nominations and Colleyville Heritage High School earned nine from the Eighth Annual Betty Lynn Buckley Awards, which celebrates excellence in musical theatre production among participating Tarrant County high schools.

The 2008 Betty Lynn Buckley Awards Ceremony is scheduled for May 22 at Casa Mañana Theatre in Fort Worth.

GHS nominations are based on its performance of Into the Woods and CHHS nominations are based on the performance of Bye Bye Birdie. Nominations included Best Musical for both high schools, Best Orchestra and Best Male Actor for both, plus other awards in a variety of categories. Nominees and categories include:

Best Musical - GHS, Into the Woods and CHHS, Bye Bye Birdie

Best Orchestra - CHHS & GHS

Best Male Actor - Landry Ayers, GHS; Patrick Thomas, CHHS

Best Female Actress - Kate Bristol, GHS; Kelly Weaver, GHS

Best Male Supporting Actor - Spencer Huddleston, CHHS

Best Female Supporting Actor - Cassie Koepf, CHHS

Best Female Ensemble Performer - Kelsey Dearing, CHHS; Emily Meier, CHHS

Scene Design Budge Level 2 - Michael Siemek & Katie Johnson, CHHS; Nick Belanger, Austin Hunt, Dillion Reynolds, Emily Smith, Lance Trachier, GHS

Costume Design Budget Level 1 - Emily Smith, Hayley Butler, Anne Harris, Lance Trachier, Lauren Sciarappa, GHS

Costume Design Budget Level 2 - Colleen Casey, CHHS

Lighting Design Budget Level 2 - Jonathan Burkholder, Ryan Savage, Joe Taylor, GHS

The Betty Lynn Buckley Awards also rewards winners in select categories with a $500 college scholarship, which are provided by donors who recognize the impact musical theater has on the lives of these students.
