The Kingsmen, best known for the 1963 recording of the song Louie Louie, will play Saturday night during the festival. Rolling Stone magazine rated Louie Louie the No. 4 most influential song of all time.
The downtown Grapevine festival will include an outdoor exhibition featuring demonstrations, education and interactive activities.
Those who attend the festival will have the opportunity to watch or participate in lumberjack shows, scuba diving, rock climbing, quad bungee jumping, kayaking, a fishing tank, 10K walk/run, as well as see a live white tiger exhibit, bicycle stunts and wakeboarding shows.
There will also be plenty of food and drinks. People can enjoy corn dogs, fajitas, homemade root beer, sausage on-a-stick, funnel cakes and other festival favorites. The weekend will include Old West gunfighters, live entertainment on four stages with rock, R&B, bluegrass and country. Grapevine and Texas wines will be featured at three wine pavilions. Enjoy arts and crafts, carnival rides and short runs on the "Main Street Days Festival Flyer" with the Grapevine Vintage Railroad. The train will also offer rides from the Fort Worth Stockyards to the festival at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and returning to Fort Worth at 6 p.m.
"This year’s Main Street Days will have a host of events for active festival-goers to participate," said Grapevine resident Dennis Luers of the outdoor- themed event. Luers is serving as this year’s Main Street Days co-chairman with his wife, Patsy. "We wanted to bring outdoor-friendly shows to not only entertain, but to also convey a positive message for residents and visitors — Grapevine is the premier outdoor adventure destination," Luers said.
Dennis and Patsy are known to many local residents for playing the "God and Goddess of Wine" at Grapevine festivals.
"It is going to be a lot of fun," Patsy said of the festival.
Dennis said the festival will also be more "green" this year, with more efforts placed on reducing waste and recycling.
In keeping with the outdoor theme of the festival, there will be the 10K Trail Walk/Run at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Trawick Pavilion at Oak Grove Park. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., and it is free to participate. As an added bonus, all participants receive free admission to Main Street Days.
The Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show will keep festival-goers entertained all three days of the festival with log rolling, chopping, sawing, ax throwing, dragster chainsaw and tree climbing. The event offers a historical, educational and humorous show filled with audience participation. The professional bicycle stunt show will amaze audiences all weekend as riders perform high-flying stunts.
Each day during the festival, there will be wakeboard demonstrations using a portable wakeboard ramp and pools. Wakeboard riders will also perform stunts. Main Street Days will open at 10 a.m. Friday, May 16, and admission is free until 5 p.m. The hours are 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission prices are $7 for adults, $5 for those 62 and older and for children 6 to 12. Children 5 and younger get in free. Weekend passes are available for $15, and souvenir weekend passes are $20.
