That’s what four local women recently did, and their adventure was filmed for the debut show called All-Girl Getaways on the Fine Living Network.
The women – Cheryl Brown of Colleyville, Michelle Kneeland of Grand Prairie, Traci Williams of Fort Worth, Dana Davis of Arlington – have known each other for years, so they knew they would have a good time together.
Brown said that she met Williams and Davis through their husbands. Kneeland is her sister.
"Our friendships grew when we all attended the same church for years," Brown added.
The next step, deciding it would be fun to get away for a girls vacation was an easy decision. The only challenge was where to go.
"Dana came up with the brilliant idea of taking a cruise," Brown said. "It had all the amenities to satisfy everyone, and we would be able to visit more than one island."
The cruise was a seven-day adventure that left from Miami, with stops in San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Maartan and Labadee, Haiti.
The trip began imperfectly.
"The funniest part was the fact that Dana’s and my luggage did not make it for three days. We had to wing it without our personal belongings, which was a test for one’s character and for our friendship, because I was not the sweetest person with whom to deal at that juncture."
Davis added to that story, "It was fabulous, although it started off a little rocky because Traci and I almost missed the flight."
As for being taped, again, Davis’ idea.
"I am always planning something," she said. "And I enjoy spending time with my good girlfriends. When I found out that the Fine Living Network was looking to document how girls have fun on vacations, I thought ... this is perfect."
The entire experience turned out to be very positive.
"The show was a blast!" Kneeland said.
"I was originally skeptical about participating because I am a private person, but the producers and crew were great and minimally invasive so they made it easy for us to be our natural selves. Sometimes we were too comfortable and we would forget about the microphones. At those times the sound guy would receive an earful of girl talk," she said.
However, even though the journey was recorded, portions of it were most memorable for the women.
"Doing some things I would not normally do was really exciting," Brown said, "like rock climbing, ice skating, boogie boarding. I also really enjoyed just being with the girls — bonding, sharing and just relaxing together."
All-Girl Getaways airs on the Fine Living Network Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
This episode ran on April 24, to launch the series.
"I was originally skeptical about participating because I am a private person, but the producers and crew were great and minimally invasive so they made it easy for us to be our natural selves."
